Nice was at -10, so I changed it to run at 0; it didn't make a difference. Yes, direct rending was still off in 2.6.8.1. I looked at my /etc/modules, and found parport_pc emu10k1 8139too usb-uhci hid ide-scsi ide-cd I don't think i need the ide-scsi and ide-cd under 2.6, but I don't think they hurt anything.
