I'd guess that either your audio application's volume (as opposed to the system-wide volume) is too low, or that you've got your speakers wired to the wrong connection. Some outputs are for driving headphones directly, while other line outputs will have a different amount of power, since they usually go to amplifiers or powered speakers. -- Lee.
