I had the same problems and after a lot of frustration I decided to download teTeX and install it in the /usr/local directory (after advice of somebody from this mailing list). I removed the Debian LaTeX and related packages with the exception of auctex and latex2e-doc. I symlinked the teTeX configuration files to /etc/texmf and everything is running fine now. I had no permission problems and everything that is supposed to work works. Regards. Johann Spies. -- TO UNSUBSCRIBE FROM THIS MAILING LIST: e-mail the word "unsubscribe" to [EMAIL PROTECTED] .
