Yes, there is, in the XF86_MONO server. Unfortunately, creating /etc/xf86config could be quite tricky; XFree86 3.2's new XF86Setup program uses the vga16 server, so you can't use that. You really need to find somebody else's settings and steal and adjust them. I'm in the same boat.
