I've found on a box with a few hundred users, you had better allocate a LOT more for /var. I mounted a 1 Gig drive as /var, and gave the users a 5 MB quota on the filesystem. I also put 300 MB on /tmp... Of course, if this is a box for a few people, then you don't need nearly as much...
