Hi, For the starters you could try /dev/ttyS0 instead of /dev/tty0. If /dev/ttyS0 doesn't work try ttyS1-ttyS3. The /dev/ttyS0 through /dev/ttyS3 are the com devices in Linux.
For testing you could try minicom (comm/minicom_1.75-2.deb in stable) and issue some AT commands (ATI4 might output some info about the modem) to see if the modem responds. I hope this helps.
