I like to display "fortune" or the "dhammapada" in my x-window at login,
so I have in ~/.xsession
xmessage -center "`dp`" &
In fact, I like it so much that I generate a new dhammapada every 10 minutes
on an X-window in the fourth quadrant:
xterm -T dhammapada -geometry +1024+1118 -e watch -n 600 dp &
