How does one tell the IDE driver to use block read/writes whenever possible? I ran into a situation where I was playing a wave file in the background and I had to check a directory on that same drive. As soon as I invoked "dir", the sound went down the tubes and I noticed the excessive access of the hard drive by the wave player program.
