You have to recompile perl and enable the ALLOW_CHANGING_FROM #define. Its all in the docs. Download the source from www.washington.edu/pine. It'd be great if Debian's pine was compiled with this. You still have to add 'From' to the user-changeable fields in pine's setup, so a 'From' dialog does not show up unless you want to.
