xbuffy is pretty good if you're using multiple inboxes with procmail. I'm using xbuffy on an fvwmbutton. I like it, but it took a while to get it to work. I think there is also an xmultibiff. I've got a script on my web page to tell the number of new/unread/read messages in mbox mailboxes. http://www.mindspring.com/~lee.bradshaw/checker.pl BTW, sending mail to debian-user is sufficient.
