After you do the 'insmod' then do o a 'cat /proc/modules' and you should
see an entry like:
psaux 1 1
which indicate that the mouse module is indeed loaded and known to the
kernel.
For gpm to work you need either:
/dev/psaux (or /dev/mouse and a link from /dev/mouse to /dev/psaux).
