Debian Gods/Goddesses -

I am trying to set up remote printing. I have a Intel PC compatable
running Linux attached to a HP LaserJet 4m with a parallel cable and local
printing is working fine under the bsdlpr package. I have a room full of
SGIs and Suns, all happily networked together (with the Linux box). I'm
trying to use the Linux box as a print server for all the other machines.
Attempts to access the server's print queue from remote machines give
error messages:

> sykes:burn% lpq
> burn: waiting for queue to be enabled on run
> Rank Owner Job Files Total Size
> 1st sykes 120 /etc/printcap 1537 bytes
>
> run: /usr/sbin/lpd: lp: Your host does not have line printer access

(Here, I've tried to print /etc/printcap on a remote machine "burn", an
SGI, host "run" is the Linux box). lpr does not give any error messages
on the remote machine, the print jobs just go to the local print queue,
where they remain forever.

It looks like run (the Linux box) isn't granting permission to access the
queue from the remote machine. The Printing-HOWTO says to put the remote
hosts' names in the /etc/hosts.lpd file, but doesn't give the format of an
entry in that file. It would be nice if the /etc/hosts.lpd file itself
had a sample entry or two commented out, but it doesn't. I've tried
putting hostnames one-per-line, I've tried a format similar to .rhosts,
and several others. I even (temporarily) put a "+" in /etc/hosts.equiv.
So far nothing has worked.

If anyone has insight into this problem, I'd sure appreciate some help.
TIA.
