I am unable to get chatscript to log me in for a ppp connection to my ISP. Chat doesn't seem to work and doesn't seem to be supported (I like the message in the man pages - "If it breaks you get to keep the pieces"). I've given up being able to automate the process - I'll settle for logging in manually, what utility do can I use to log in manually and obtain a ppp connection. (I've tried DIP but every time I try to choose the ppp protocol (command: mode ppp) it just quits back to the shell - no error message.
My ISP doesn't do anything special: it's simply "login:" followed by "Password:", no authentication stuff. It doesn't seem like I should have to upgrade my system just to obtain this connection - I'm sure it's not that difficult. I have tried the instructions in ISP-Hookup-HOWTO, NET-3-HOWTO and the Debian User's Guide to no avail. Any help or alternative strategies would be greatly appreciated.
