Hello Everyone, I'm trying to install Debian Linux on a PS/2 Model 35sx, w/ 8Meg RAM and 40Meg hd. I know this is a VERY small and slow machine. I want to use it as a print server. I've researched it both on the web and looked, this machine has an AT bus. As you might have guessed it does not have a CD-ROM, and at this point it would be difficult to get one attached.
Now the problem, when I get to the point of "Installing Operating System Kernel and Modules" it seems that the install script tries to mount the Rescue disk. It looks like the mount fails. I get an error message box, and lower on the screen there is a message "/dev/fd0: Device not configured". Any help would be much appreciated!!! Thanks in advance!!! More details follow: The Rescue disk that says it's ver 2.0. I tried the regular and tecra flavors with the same results. I've tried mounting the disk by hand and here are the results: # mount -t msdos /dev/fd0 /floppy mount: /dev/fd0 is not a valid block device # mount /dev/fd0 /floppy mount: /dev/fd0 is not a valid block device # ls -l /dev/fd0 brw-rw---- 1 0 0 2, 0 Jun 23 22:50 /dev/fd0 === Also, with a Rescue disk that say ver 1.x the interaction is different. It gets to the same point, "Install Operating Sys..." but it can't read the install script: Installing from the rescue floppy... ./install.sh: Can't open ./install.sh I also tried mounting that Rescue disk by hand: # mount -t msdos /dev/fd0 /floppy end_request: I/O error, dev 02:00, sector 0 mount: /dev/fd0 is not a valid block device # mount /dev/fd0 /floppy end_request: I/O error, dev 02:00, sector 0 end_request: I/O error, dev 02:00, sector 0 mount: /dev/fd0 is not a valid block device Thanks in advance! odk -- Oscar D.
