You could go to packages.qa.debian.org and type in gcc-2.95 (for
example). It will then list for you the most recent changelogs, in
order of increasing age, along with other information. You can see
what version you are about to downgrade by doing
apt-get -s upgrade
or whatever. This is probably not the best way of doing this, but I
don't currently know of a better option. It doesn't seem to show the
version above, though. Possibly because it is a woody backport? It
only lists the gcc-2.95 2.95.4.ds13-11 changelog. HTH.
