@Home may use a different scheme than the Cable Modem serivce I've got, which is RoadRunner (Time/Warner). RoadRunner uses a modified DHCPd that incorporates a login to their network. Some clever people have hooked up packet scanners and reverse engineered the protocol. I'm not yet using Debian on RR yet (I'm still using my Mac), but I hope to be doing so in a few days.
