I'm not 100% sure if this is the correct link, but you might take a look at http://www-scf.usc.edu/~vibber/linux/smbfs.html . IIRC there are at least some links to patches against mount to do this. I can't verify the link - I'm currently in a no-web situation ... Please don't be disappointed if this only is the link to a wrapper script for 2.1.x's smbmount.
