Layers can only be saved in gimps own format. So you have to flatten an image first, before you can save it as GIF. Also if it has more than 8-bit colors, it can't be saved as GIF an must be converted first. Third thing to mind is, that GIF is in the non-free Package for gimp. Did you install this one? Stef
