Well, it depends what features you want. If you want to stay in touch with friends....I'd suggest zicq. It's a nice small program, that does not take up almost any memory and CPU. Or, if you are a fan of 'Point and Click' get a Qt-based icq clone (cicq or gtkicq). ICQ-Jave from Mirabilis is not worth downloading.
