What I trying to say is that IIRC, chat should only appear at the lines that describes the creation of the connection. And I do not understand why there is a line that mentions chat after the connection is made. That is, it is my understanding that chat terminates before the ppp connection is fully established. But I might be wrong. Even if I am wrong, posting a more detailed log + configuration files can help in solving your problem.
