Ok. Basicly, in order to run a program all you need to do is type the program name. Like, in order to run netscape in Xwindows, you type netscape and hit enter. Many commands can include arguments with them, like xterm -bg black -fg white geometry 80x35 will produce an xterm window with black background, white font color and size of 80x35. To find out more about the commands and arguements do man <name of command>. Thats when you have manual pages installed.
