Eric and Paul At the very least, the X (or xdm) package should let you get X working before activating xdm. I had a really bad turn with my new machine that has an SiS 6326, and Slink (frozen). X didn't work, but xdm did. My X now works, but not without using single user to kill xdm, and some playing with XF86Config and lots of RTFM, several of them, Readmes and HOWTOs too. <flame> Thanks for this.
