What you mean you cant seem to do it?
Do you get errors when compiling, do you not know how to do it at all, or
what is the problem?

Kernel that you compile is going to be your hardware specific, and you
don't want to use a kernel that has been compiled on someone else's
computer.
Chances are, you need to:
a. install kernel-source package
b. Read the Kernel-HOWTO
c. Do it.
