I was running the 2.2.1 kernel which is in potato. Since your message I jumped over to netgod.net and grabbed the debs for 2.2.5. Installed them, configured and compiled (all went nicely), installed and rebooted, and I get the exact same thing (no sound, no /proc/sound). > Does your .config file have a line that says CONFIG_SOUND=m (or 'y', as > approprate)? CONFIG_SOUND=y CONFIG_SOUND_ES1370=y is what I have in the /usr/src/linux/.config file. -- If the current stylistic distinctions between open-source and commercial software persist, an open-software revolution could lead to yet another divide between haves and have-nots: those with the skills and connections to make use of free software, and those who must pay high prices for increasingly dated commercial offerings. -- Scientific American
