These timeouts are likely due to sendmail trying to resolve domain names 
(specifically, names which can't be
resolved). Trying making a 'fake' domain for yourself and setting the host 
mapping in /etc/hosts, ie.

1.2.3.4    kuifj.mydomain.nl kuifj
