Yup. Only the other night I found I had a ~/etc directory left over from a bungled install of some app or other, so, distracted by a telephone call, I did su root, then, wait for it, rm -R /etc - I went hot when I realised what was happening. Fortunately, I had a backup of my /etc directory which was pre-potato and a few weeks old, so I reinstated it then went to /var/cache/apt/archive and did dpkg -i *.deb. Not very elegant, but after a few blips and tinkering I got a working /etc directory with everything where it should be. Phew!! -- Phillip Deackes [EMAIL PROTECTED] Debian Linux (Potato)
