This is a reply I received in response to a request for Linux drivers for the Colour Inkjet 3200 printer from Lexmark. I guess I should have checked printer compatibility a bit better before I bought it : (
In reference to your e-mail of 25/05/99, unfortunatly at present we do not have the drivers to work with Linux and have no plans to introduce it in the near future. If there is any move to introduce a range of drivers for Linux, we will inform all customers. If any othrer problems arise with your printer you can contact our technical support line on 01812801701, Monday to Friday 9am to 5.30 pm. Best regards, I especially like the 'Best regards,' bit. Rather Ironic, I think. On a related note, does any one have any experience with attempting to get this printer to work from Linux? I'd have thought that 'a printer was a printer, was a printer' But apparently not. I am not a programmer/hacker type, just an ex-Windows user who is trying to move to something better. I have WindowsNT on a 2G partition, while I learn the ropes of Linux. I hope to re-format that partition within the year, though. I don't want to see what happens with WindowsNT come Y2K. Thanks again for all your help in the past, and all the help I'm sure you will continue to provide in the future. Cheers, John Gay
