I'm having the same types of problems with different modules. Myself my cdrom & sound modules. I was thinking it was caused due to my change in kernels, but after reading your message I did exaclty the same with libc6 upgrade and the downgrade. This has beening going on with me for sometime, so I decided to go back to libc6, I think the problem is related more to the Kernel and modutils and modconf, but to upgrade these I needed libc6 back. So, I did all this yesterday and haven't stop to check anything today, as soon as I get home from work and get time I'll check it out further.....
