Hi, I'm using debian (2.1) for quite some time now and I really like it. However, I needed newer versions of some packages so I got the diffs, dsc's from potato and rebuilt them myself.
If I upgrade in the near future to potato, will my own glibc2.0 linked packages (potato version!) be replaced by potato's glibc2.1 linked ones? - About rebuilding; other package tools (rpm) have architecture info in their config, so if I put my own CFLAGS in this config, every package I rebuild automatically uses my CFLAGS; can/will dpkg behave like this? - In /etc/environment you can put variables which are imported into every shell (very convenient); the problem is: if I do e.g. echo "CFLAGS=-mpentium -O2 -pipe" >>/etc/environment" and startx then errors result because /etc/X11/Xsession (called by /etc/X11/xinit) includes a line ". /etc/environment". Is there another way of setting CFLAGS exactly to -mpentium -O2 -pipe in /etc/environment? Continuing, could there be something like an /etc/alibaba file which contains aliases which are imported by every shell (similar to environment)? That way, alternatives (e.g. (x)emacs19/20) could be handled somewhat more elegantly IMHO w.r.t. defaults. Finally, will there be 'SMP support' in Debian? E.g. modified procps packages etc. Thanks in advance, Please address mails, flames, etc. also to me as I'm not subscribed to this mailing list... greets, xander van wiggen <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
