Here's what to do: Debian comes with a "base" file. Download that, the dhcpcd deb, and the netbase deb. Install the "base" system, then install net-base, then dhcpcd. It's a pain, and you'll miss out on the default setups, but it shouldn't be too bad. Worked for me over a cable modem.
