Qt version 1 was non-free. Qt version 2 is under a free license, the QPL. This takes away some of the problems with free software that uses Qt. There is still a problem in that the interaction between KDE's license (the GPL) and Qt's (be it the old non-free or the QPL) prevents us from redistributing KDE binaries.
