Looking at the devices list in the kernel documentation (linux/Documentation/devices.txt), it appears that scd is another commonly used name for sr. Specifically, this quote: [11] block SCSI CD-ROM devices 0 = /dev/sr0 First SCSI CD-ROM 1 = /dev/sr1 Second SCSI CD-ROM ... The prefix /dev/scd instead of /dev/sr has been used as well, and might make more sense. Checking my /dev directory, i see that scd devices do exist, and do have the proper device numbers.
