My machine is a stand-alone unit, connected by modem to the
Internet and I intend to rely on Pine for my email and newsgroup
requirements.

There are no problems sending mail, but the receiving aspect
is presenting some. Most of the literature I've read appears to
relate primarily to networks.

It seems that I should be able to use just Fetchmail and Pine, but
docs seem to include an MTA such as smail in configuration
examples, so I'm a little confused.

I have configured fetchmail using the 'Novice Config' and can
get mail into /var/spool/mail/<username> from a commandline.
However, I cannot:-
      a. Find a fetchmailrc file - some file must exist for if I
rerun 'fetchmailconfig' repeating the info, I get
          '? over-write existing file'
      b. Understand the repeated message 'SMTP listener doesn't
          like recipient address "[EMAIL PROTECTED]"'

Would someone please help to get me a little further by explaining:-
      1. Where is fetchmailrc (or the file that holds the info I
          configured).
      2. What is meant by the SMTP listener's complaint.
      3. Can I, in fact, just use fetchmail and Pine and if so
how do I get the mail into the latter for easier reading
          and disposal (archiving, deleting etc).
      4. How can I change my hostname (I now think a more
suitable one is required). Altering fullname field. login
shell and password I understand but 'vipw' if it used
          by Debian is a mystery.

Grateful for any assistance.
John.
