And will not work AFAIK. The problem is when you have a process that is marked as: ---------- 8< ----- man ps D uninterruptible sleep (usually IO) ---------- 8= ----- man ps you cannot remove the device until you kill this process. How do you kill a process in the "D" (=Dozing???) state? Bernhard
