The delivery into /var/spool/mail/username is done by local delivery service of your MTA (Sendmail, Exim, etc.). First, you should check, if this is running. For example by: mail user -s Test < /etc/lilo.conf
If the message doesn't appear in /var/spool/mail/user then you have something wrong with MTA. If it works, then you really should read some of mail related howtos from http://www.linuxdoc.org. ;-) Radim On Tue, Apr 11, 2000 at 05:20:53PM -0700, Beavis wrote: > hi list: > > i am wanting to become for familiar w/ the mailing system of linux > > if i have a ip address as follows: > > 62.234.24.5, can i reveive mail via [EMAIL PROTECTED] > <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> or [EMAIL PROTECTED] <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > > > if so, where does the mail go to? or do i need to set up exim or > fetchmail to retreive the mail, but actually the mail should come > locally right? > > i am asking because i am trying to set up the internel e-mail client of > KDE > and when i attempt to set up a local account it request which location > the mail is in > > the default is: /var/spool/mail > but always remains empty and the mail client can't open the file....... > > any quick tips would be lovely
