You need to be more specific, since there are several flavors of
cable connection. For my own connection to Optimum Online, I
followed the following steps:
1)Installed my Ethernet card (3C905).
2)Bought a cable "modem".
3)Plugged the patch cable from the Ethernet card
into the cable modem.
4)Installed the pump package with "apt-get install pump".
4)Ran "pump -i".
That's it.
