Create a directory ".fvwm2" in your home directory, if you don't have one. In that directory create the file "background.color" put in the color you want for example mine is "DarkSlateGray4" Make sure you have a line in your ".fvwm2rc" file that looks like this --
Read .fvwm2/init.hook Read the man page for fvwm2.
