problem with cdrom

hi, Can you help me?  My CD-ROM on the CPU seems to stop working, I put my CD in the drive and it doesn't seen to know it's there. lights flash but no response.  It use to start automatically but not anymore.  Went into the Device Management, says it's working but still I get no response from it. Please help.
