md5sum from sources -linux-.

Can some one indicate how to build and install the md5sum from sources?
It seems not to be available as a deb package, and I have failed
miserably at doing it, after downloading from
ftp://ftp.funet.fi/pub/crypt/hash/mds/md5/
It gives me some crap after I run gcc md5c.c
Why don't we have it as a deb file? Please help.
