what do u mean by "Point to point" ??? i think you may be getting terms confused. if your thinking of using "Peer to peer" networking (Connecting 2 machines directly via a crossover, or "peer to peer" cable) you don't need any special options the systems will just work provided they are configured on the same subnet, and the cable is of the correct type.
the only reaosn i would see to have a point to point connection would be using the ppp or slip interfaces..never heard of it being used on an ethernet interface. nate Philip Reetz wrote: > > Hey, > > I need to set up an ethernet interface on my debian box as a pointopoint > interface. > > I tried the following: > > /etc/network/interfaces > > eth0 inet static > address "my ip" > netmask 255.255.255.255 > pointopoint "remote ip" > > If I do a ifup eth0 the interface is brought up with the correct IP and > netmask but in broadcast and not pointopoint mode. > > Anyone have any ideas. > Help is very appreciated. > Thanks. > > Bye, > Philip > > -- > Philip Reetz Tel : +49 (0) 531 235 1705 > Fax : +49 (0) 531 235 1459 > Technischer Vorstand Mobile: +49 (0) 179 229 4340 > SchunterNet e.V. > > Braunschweig > http://www.schunternet.de > > -----BEGIN PGP FINGERPRINT----- > 8151 5790 8EAF EFD0 C9E0 1C42 5E79 E847 FAD0 6C95 > -----END PGP FINGERPRINT----- > > -- > To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] > with a subject of "unsubscribe".
