Go to http://lists.debian.org/ and look for debian-i18n@lists.debian.org (internationalization); that's the general list for these issues. (http://www.lug.ro/ seems to work for me? I don't know if you mean that it led to a dead end straight away, or later ...) One useful thing you could do right now is start translating debconf templates yourself.
