I just recently bought a Duron (and motherboard, and ...). My Duron
came with some pinkish (looks like silly putty) stuff on the bottom of
the heatsink. It also had a piece of paper with a bit of plastic on
it half over the pinkish stuff. According to the directions, the
paper was supposed to be covering the pinkish stuff, and was some sort
of protective film for packaging. I removed the paper and put the
heatsink on the CPU. According to the directions, that stuff is some
sort of thermal conducting compound. It seems to be a replacement for
the more traditional grease that must be applied manually (this is
actually the first one I have put together).

I had a bad motherboard at first, and got a replacement yesterday.
Now it boots! Yay! I haven't had it on for more than a couple
minutes, but I think you will be fine just sticking the heatsink (with
that sticky putty-like stuff on it) on the CPU.

Now it is time to find some docs on monitoring the temperature ...
