Hello, I too have a GeForce2 card, and to get the framebuffer working, I had to go all the way to a 2.4.3 kernel! The 2.4.2 does not recognise the GEForce 2 MX that I have anyway. However if you go for the nvidia GLX drivers, along with the Kernel drivers, prepare for a bumpy ride - certainly on my machine the latest version is as unstable as anything imaginable, - though for the couple of minutes that it does work, it's blazingly fast. If you can live without open-gl, stick with the "nv" driver instead.
