Hmm. I asked a few questions about this last night, and there were no takers. I'll try again, a bit more concisely.
1. Does XF86Setup still have a role here? Or do I have to edit \etc\X11\XF86Config by hand? As it stands, running XF86Setup gives a segmentation fault, and no other messages - dies a very quick death. 2. Any basic reason why XF86 4.1.0-9 wouldn't work after being installed over a 2.2r3 base? I have reason to believe that xdm (startx) is putting in a valiant effort, but that the X11 config file is hopeless. 3. Are the newer Matrox drivers (eg., G-450) part of the 4.1.0-9 distribution or will I need to add by hand the small Linux distro from the Matrox website? Many thanks in advance. rafe b.
