Hi all, Fixed this odd problem by finding the postinst file for console-common, removing references to a perl script and then replacing them with install-keymaps ...uk.gz.
Its s strange bug...perhaps I hit the wrong key diring another apt-get upgrade but I never knowingly touched my keymaps. Patrick
