When have both icewm and gnome on my machine, and want to be able to start up icewm without gnome starting up, so I have used update-alternatives to set my default x-window-manager. However when I start up icewm gnome also starts up, and I get both the icewm menubar, and the gnome menubar on top at the bottom of the window.
