Suns version of Java does not work on Mozilla builds that used GCC > 3.Doh! I am _such_ an idiot. I had tried both versions, and Sun's didn't even show up in the "about:plugins" list. Blackdown's did show up, but no Java pages that I tried would work. Then gaumer wrote this, and I double-checked my version of Blackdown, which was correct, but then something clicked in my brain - - "Maybe I have Java turned off . . . ?" Arggh! All is well now. Thanks!
