Well, I think I'm going to give up on this project for now. Nothing suggested has worked thus far. I mean, the modules load, but still no sound. Isn't there some sort of sound configuration utility available to simplify stuff like this? Also, I think I'm going to wipe the system and put 98SE back on her for the time being. For some reason, even with a very minimalist configuration (using IceWM for my desktop, and very few X-based apps), the 800 and somethingMB hard drive this system has in it is nearly full.
