Personally, I don't see anything wrong with it... You _could_ do
something like
(cd $tempdir/websync ; echo $scanhtml | csplit -f index -q - /lock/ {*} )
or
echo $scanhtml | (cd $tempdir/websync; csplit -f index -q - /lock/ {*} )
but I don't think that's any more readable.
