Seems to be a problem in your environment. g++ works fine here:

$ dpkg -l | egrep ^ii.*'(libstdc\+\+|g\+\+)'
ii  g++                              4.1.1-15
ii  g++-4.1                          4.1.1-21
ii  libstdc++6                       4.1.1-21
ii  libstdc++6-4.1-dev               4.1.1-21

This a *very* outdated version of libc6 (released on Juny 2006). When
was your last upgrade?
